Living Eggs – we say goodbye….Posted by: Mr Bruton in Living Eggs Event, tags: Living EggsWell, the chicks have to leave us today, going to a good home here in Wilberfoss. We’ve really enjoyed having the chicks here for these two weeks, and thing that the children have had a wonderful time, full of new experiences, full of inspiration, full of fun! Thanks you to Friends Of Wilberfoss School for funding the Living Eggs Projects, and of course thank you to all the parents who’ve contributed to F.O.W.S. funds.

Living Eggs – Hatching VideoPosted by: admin in Living Eggs Event, tags: Egward, hatching video, Living EggsThanks to Mrs Hallewell, we have video footage of our first chick hatching. A chick can take many hours to hatch, from the first crack appearing to the chick finally breaking free of the egg shell. Mrs Hallewell started filming as the chick was in the final stages of getting out of the shell. The film was 25 minutes long, but we’ve speeded it up by 16 times, from approximately 25 minutes to a minute and a half.

Living Eggs – Day 5 – The end of the first week!Posted by: admin in Living Eggs Event, tags: Living EggsLiving Eggs – Day 5 – Friday 9th March 2012 It’s been just 5 days but the chicks have gone from this:
to this:
And we’ve really enjoyed having them in the school. Next week they’ll grow even bigger, perhaps big enough to come out of the brooder for short periods of time. The children have really benefited greatly from seeing them develop and grow, and we’re all looking forward to seeing what next week will bring.
At the end of next week the chicks will have to go back to the Living Egg organisation, where they’ll be homed at an organic farm in Malton. However, if you would like to find a home for the chicks that would be marvellous. Please get in touch with the school office to put your name down on the list if you’re interested and for further details. There are 11 chicks available, 4 cockerels, 7 hens. For information on home rearing chicks we’ve a couple of information sheets available to download from the school website at the Living Eggs webpage. Living Eggs Day 4 – 3pm All 11 chicks are doing very well, happy in the brooder and growing, growing, growing…. Unfortunately we have to report that only 11 hatched. The one that didn’t hatch has been collected by Farmer Peter from Malton.

Living Eggs Day 4 – 9a.m. – All doing well!Posted by: admin in Living Eggs Event, tags: Living EggsLiving Eggs Day 4 – 8th March 2012 9a.m. We’ve moved one chick back to the brooder to keep the last hatchling company until it’s developed enough to move into the brooder. All 11 chicks (9 in brooder, 2 in incubator) well, last hatchling developing slower than others, as we’d expect. The children are having a wonderful time seeing the chicks every day. If they could most of the classes would have all their lessons next to the chicks!
