Sometimes it can be hard keeping track of all the things that go on at school (which is a good thing – who wants a school where nothing interesting or newsworthy happens?).

But we want to make it that little easier for you to keep up with everything. Which is where a little modern technology and communication comes in. There are now more ways than ever that you can keep up to date:

1. Subscribe to email updates on the website.
2. Subscribe to this blog - A feed reader such as Google Reader will track new posts here.
3. Follow us on Twitter. @WilberfossPS.

But from now on we’ll be putting a new blog post up right here, and updating the BREAKING NEWS section of the school website with updates, news, and reminder of the things that we’ve added, changed, altered, or just want to bring to your attention.

So, without further ado….

THE WEEKLY WHAT’S NEW. Weds 26th September.

1. Maths Guides and Parents Guides on the website

These are specially written to help you help your child with their maths, showing you the way Maths is taught here at Wilberfoss.

The Parents Guides are there to help with other aspects of school life, with links to the termly Curriculum Information leaftlets, weblinks and resources, even downloads you may find useful. And all of this can be found in the PARENT’S AREA of the website.

2. School Clubs

We’ve finalised the list of clubs available at Wilberfoss for this term – on the SCHOOL EVENTS AND CLUBS pages of the website. Lots going on!

3. Updates to the Library

You mayhave seen this in the blog post yesterday, but in addition to the regular sets of new books we bring into the library every half term, the Library has a new section this half-term celebrating the MODERN CLASSICS - have a look next time you’re visiting school – you may recognise some titles!

4. Guided Reading

We have also completely updated our Guided Reading books, thanks (as always) to generous donations and financial support from the Friends Of Wilberfoss School – details on the school website – LIBRARY page.

5. Foundation Stage Lunch Club

We wanted to point this out to you this term, especially if you have a child currently in Foundation Stage 1. Did you know that we offer a special Foundation Stage Lunch Club, where, for a very reasonable fee, your child can share in the experience of lunchtime at school, as they have school dinners or packed lunches under the supervision of the Nursery Nurse in a specially prepared Foundation room. It’s lots of fun, and a great introduction to part of the school day they’ll be taking part in next year when they join FS2.

Lots of details and pictures on the school website – SCHOOL INFORMATION – SCHOOL MEALS page.

6. Pupil Work

As usual, our pupils have already started producing some great, great work that finds its way onto our walls, and into the PUPIL GALLERY sections of the school website.

7. Topic Work

As the pupils settle into their topics for this half term, please take a look at the relevant TOPIC PAGES on the school website:

Year 1 & 2: THE IRON MAN.
Year 3 & 4: VIKINGS!
Year 5 & 6: WAR OF THE WORLDS (including some great Year 5 Launch Day photos)

8. School Blog

Well, you’re reading it, so you’re already aware of it! But over the last week or so we’ve had posts about the Library changes, Guided Reading, Modern Classics, Lunchtime Golden Table, Foundation Lunch Club, Year 5 Space Launch Day, and more!

More next week, updates and more items of interest!

greek-flag

During the 3rd of November year 5/6 had a Greek Day to launch the Topic Of Greece we’ll be doing this half term. We had a choice to come in Greek clothing and we had to bring and paint a terracotta plant pot.

After registration we planned out our design  for the black paint that went on our  pot. Before we put on the paint  we drew on the pot with pencil so we could go over it with black paint.

When we had all finished our pots,Mrs Hatter, put on horrible histories for us which was about Greeks.

Then Jack , Curtis , Sam and Jack  helped set out the food banquet. Mrs Hatter gave out some sheets for us to fill in while we were tasting the food.We all tried a variety of different Greek foods and filled in on our sheet the taste, appearance, texture, name of the food and the rating out of ten. Whilst we were eating we had some Greek music on.

Here are some of the foods we tried:

pita-bread JB&CW  hummus JB&CW

Pitta bread & Houmous

Greek-Yogurt JB&CW  olive-mista

Greek Yogurt and Olives.

Baklava-1  GreekDelightRedyellow400g

Baklava and Greek Delight.

lemonade  exps40736_CFT1437882D14C

For the drinks we had Curtis’ homemade lemonade which wasn’t fizzy!

I promise that we’ll have more things happening here during the next half term. In the meantime have a lovely break. See you all in November.

It’s September again, autumn is approaching and as usual, the sun has decided to shine on the children as they make their way back to school for the start of another exciting school year.

If your child is starting this term we’d like to wish them and you a very warm welcome to Wilberfoss Primary School. And the same warm welcome extends, of course, to all the pupils and staff of Wilberfoss Primary.

Over the holidays we’ve had some exciting building work on the KS1 playground – it’s now bigger and better than ever before and the children have much more room to run around and have lots of fun at break and lunchtimes.

Welcome to the Wilberfoss blog. This is intended to be a place for pupils and staff to have their say. It might be serious, it might be fun. But whatever it is, you’ll see it all in the coming weeks and months.

Please feel free to add your comments, but have a look on the Blog Rules page first to see how we intend to run our blog.
