As an end activity for our Year 2 computer art project where the children have been looking at various artists (Kandinsky, Mondrian, Pollock, and Stella, we decided to take the bits we liked most from each artist and either make a final piece in the style of the artist or create a mashup piece taking elements from several of them.

We had some great pieces of art…

Charlie – a clash of Stella and Mondrian

Isaac – taking Pollock splashes and mixing them with Kandinsky lines and colour shapes

Maria – taking the straight lines of Mondrian and splatter of Pollock.

And  finally, combing the circles of kandinsky, the formal grid of Stella and the lines of Mondrian…. we have this wonderful piece by Amanda:

Year 2 have been experimenting with artworks on the computer, and have looked at Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, Frank Stella and Wassily Kandinsky.

This week we did a couple of extras…

First we looked at more Kandinsky, specifically these….

So, we had the artist, we had the task, our brief was to go away and make wonderful pictures in the style of Kandinsky…. Year 2 did some wonderful work. Here’s just a sampling, go to the website for more:

November 2012: Year 2 have been experimenting with making pictures in the style of the painter Kandinsky.

This involves composing the piece using lines, fills and colour and is the culmination of all the work they’ve been doing so far using the computers to make pictures in the styles of Pollock, Mondrian and Stella.

The full set is on the school website, but here are just a few examples….

Year 2 have been experimenting with making pictures in the style of the painter Frank Stella. This involves composing the piece using lines, fills and colour.

The children were set the task to stick to rigid structure first and then told to get creative in a Stella-esque style!

And they really went to town – fantastic stuff. The full range is on the school website, but here’s a little sampler:
