Tractors, lambs, sheep, goats, pigs, chicks, milking cows …. Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic day out at Molescroft Farm Beverley.

Thank you to all the staff and helpers who came along. And thank you to the children for being so well behaved all day.

Every 20 minutes in the UK, a child is hurt or killed on foot, most on the way to or from school.
Nearly half of our children are now driven to school meaning more obesity and traffic danger.” (From the Brake website)

Wednesday saw the now annual Walking Bus event snaking its way around the village. Its aim is to promote walking to and from school and encourage drivers to reduce their speeds in areas such as our village. Amazingly we had sun for the third year running!

Year 5 & 6 visited York Minster earlier in march, and as usual, had an enjoyable and educational time.

If ever you get the chance to visit and take a tour we’d all recommend it.

Here’s just a little selection of the photos, kindly taken by Mr Wragg. Many, many more on the school website events section.

Year 6 Jan 2012 Railway Museum 03

The National Railway Museum – Year 5 & 6 trip – Febraury 2012

A report by Lily, Year 5.

I really enjoyed the railway museum and I learnt a lot more about steam trains.

I also liked Adam, our railway museum guide, when he dressed up as a businessman. I thought that he would be grumpy all the time when he was our guide but he smiled after a while and I learnt a lot from him about working with steam trains such as you had to have polished black shoes, a top hat, you had to have a shave before you came to the railway and you had to be married.

I loved the science thing about steam trains and Isaac Newton’s laws of motion. I loved it when the guide fired Barbie and Ken dolls out of the canon using steam power. And when he told everyone to stand by the walls if they didn’t follow the things that Isaac Newton wrote.

A change to the residential this year. Instead of the summer sun of previous years, it was the wet and cold of November and December for Year 6!

Mr Nevill quickly realised that his pre-packed suitcase of shorts, T-shirts and sunglasses was a mistake and spent a small fortune on sweaters and waterproofs. But aside from that little problem, everything else went brilliantly!

A brilliant, if muddy few days, lots of team exercises, lots of bonding and cooperation. And lots, and lots, of FUN!!!

Things the pupils did included…. The BIG Swing, Crate Challenge, Pirahna Pool… and much, much more.

A few of the pictures below, and more over on the school website events pages. Thanks to Mr Wragg for providing some of these great pics!

This years residential saw our Year 6 venture forth into the wilds of Lincolnshire!

Okay, maybe not that wild, as they were staying at the rather lovely Caythorpe Court:

As usual, everyone seemed to have a rather fantastic time. There were lots of fantastic and thrilling activities for all the children during the residential, and we’ve lots more pictures over at the school website, but here’s just a taster:

Wilberfoss took part in the walking bus event last year, and we were really happpy to do it again this year.

The idea behind the walking bus is to highlight how wonderful it would be to see more children regularly walking to school and how it’s vital for drivers to reduce their speeds in areas such as our village.

Walking to school is wonderful, taking traffic off the roads, easing congestion, reducing pollution and most importantly getting children used to walking and having independence.

Here are just a few of the pictures … many more at the school website – it’s on the School Events page.

Year 5 & 6 went on two trips yesterday in York – to visit the Art Gallery to look at some beautiful landscapes and to the Quilt Museum to introduce them to the quilting project they’ll be doing this term.

Hopefully some of the children will be blogging about the day soon, but we’ve already put some of the photos from the Quilt Museum up on the school website – it’s in the School Events & Clubs section from the sidebar.
