Tracking Santa
December 13th, 2010 by VictoriaNORAD is the bi-national U.S.-Canadian military organisation responsible for the aerospace and maritime defence of the United States and Canada. Every year they combine their expertise and equipment to track Santa on his journey to deliver the presents. NORAD uses four high-tech systems to track Santa – radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets. In partnership with Google Earth, your pupils can track Santa live starting December 24th.
How can I use NORAD Tracks Santa to enhance teaching and learning?
As Santa doesn’t begin his journey until December 24th it is not possible to track him during school time, however it’s a great opportunity to show your class Google Earth and visit some of the countries that Santa will go to. You could even use Google Earth to plan his journey or create a short film showing the key landmarks that he should look out for. You might also like to create a page on your VLE or a printed handout suggesting useful sites for keeping children busy over the school holidays and include this as one of your main sites.
