Isidra del Guzmán Secondary School in Madrid are looking to collaborate with an English speaking secondary school via videoconferencing from September.
We are an active secondary school very near Madrid capital city with around 600 students aged 12-18. In our curriculum we give great importance to ICT and foreign languages as cross-curricular competences, as well as to the areas related with Sciences, etc. Our previous international experiences include, for instance, exchanges with Dutch and French schools. Our city and area are rich in educational and cultural resources (heritage city and historical university, very near Madrid and well communicated, etc.)
We’d like to find a native or bilingual English speaking partner for a project based on the use of VIDEO CONFERENCE. We have the necessary equipment and are pondering various possibilities such as exchanging virtual conferences on specific topics, using other resources in the two regions (museums, experts collaboration, etc.), making a calendar of extra-curricular videoconference events or, else, using it as a class activity in one or more areas.
If you are interested in partnering with the Spanish school on a range of topics (to be decided between you), please contact Inmaculada Reguero Melida -

For many schools MFL is now firmly back on the agenda and using ICT is a great way to engage students with MFL. This video from Teachers TV highlights how Voki- a free web tool has been used to great effect in a year 9 Spanish class.

YHGfL are running a workshop in the Autumn Term which will give MFL teachers a chance to try out Voki and a range of other freely available online tools.

This case study focuses on using video conferencing and virtual classroom technology (Elluminate) to deliver an AS Spanish course between two North Yorkshire secondary schools. Through a blended approach to learning, combining face-to-face teaching and remote technologies, schools are able to offer a broad and balanced curriculum. Furthermore, such an approach allows schools to save time and money, and crucially, allows them to run courses which might not otherwise survive.

For the third year, nine Rotherham primary schools took part in the Rother- Vision event held at Clifton Community Arts School. The now annual event gained a European Award for Languages from the National Centre for Languages back in 2007. Children from the nine schools, Aston Springwood, Anston Brook Primary, Herringthorpe Juniors, Kiveton Park Meadows Juniors, Thornhill Primary, Todwick Junior & Infants, Wentworth CE Junior & Infants, Owletts and Wales Primary sang popular songs in either French or Spanish, with the full razzmatazz of the European song contest. The event was broadcast back to school via a video conferencing link, with live voting held after the interval. The winners were Kiveton Park Meadows Juniors with an excellent Spanish rendition of Ve La Luna. The children were presented with prizes by the Mayor of Rotherham.
