Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011
Well the Big, Bad Wolf huffed and he puffed but he couldn’t blow down the house that nursery built!
Our love of constructing continued this week as we explored the traditional tale ‘The three little pigs’. Here is what happened!

The first little pig built a house made out of straw.

The second little pig built his house with sticks.

But the third little pig was clever...

...he called in the builders to build him a house of bricks!

We looked at how builders construct walls and tried to build ours in the same way!

We went outdoors to investigate other structures.

Next week we are going to the forest garden to build a house of sticks! We’ll keep you all posted!

Spring is here!

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011

Nursery class all have a spring in their toes this week with the cheery weather! We have been exploring the signs of spring and celebrating the warm sunshine!

We decided to spruce up the outdoors...we began by doing a little painting!

This is hard work - all this painting!

We made some Springtime music to help us along the way!

Some of us opened a canteen to feed the hungry workers!

We even got our garden tidy and ready for Spring.

The House that Nursery built!

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

This the house that Nursery built!

Do you remember how the nursery children rescued hedgehog and little rabbit from the rocket that crash-landed in the forest garden? Well now our friends are now happily encamped in the nursery. We are such ‘busy bees’ in nursery and so this week we decided that our friends might like a homes to make them feel more comfortable.

We drew up a plan of action:

First we wandered down to the forest garden to collect some natural materials.

Then set about designing happy homes for our new friends!

We had to learn how to work together and listen to others.

We explored different ways of building and joining materials together.

Little Hedgehog gets compfortable in his new pad!

We thought about the properties of different materials. Some children chose moss to go inside Little Rabbit's house because it would be 'soft to lie on'.

It was very tricky!

We even bought a carrot for a welcome present for Little Rabbit!

Pancake Capers!

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Mix it, stir it, put it in the pan,

fry it, toss it, catch it if you can.

Tuesday brought all things Pancake related to the nursery – look at everything we got up to!

We made perfect playdough pancakes!

Then we made the real thing!

'This is getting really thick and bubbly'

Our pancake capers continued outdoors too!

Catch it if you can! Can you spot the pancake in this picture?

And so we begin………

Today has been a very special day in Key Stage 1 as the children at Ashbrow Infant and Nursery School have started on their blogging journey.

The children were asked to share with you something they have learnt recently or something that they like doing in school.

(It is all THEIR OWN WORK as we feel it is very important that our children have a voice and a place to share what is important to them.) They were  eager to have their posts published and to tell others they were famous.

We would love you to comment on any of the children’s work and their blog posts, especially at this very early stage. Also if you would like to ask the children any questions or make suggestions as to the type of work you would like to see on this blog, please do.

We look forward to hearing from you

Who’s been visiting our nursery?

Monday, March 7th, 2011

Oh my goodness! When we arrived this morning we found 3 bowls of porridge, 3 spoons and a  hat which belonged to a very naughty little girl.  I wonder who had been visiting our nursery?

Whilst the bears were out in the woods, Goldilocks came to visit!

The children had great fun retelling the story using the props! Our nursery children have a real love of traditional tales at the moment and by revisiting these stories again and again it is helping us to develop our language and storytelling skills. Some children are even beginning to tell their own stories – such as ‘Jack and Jill climb the beanstalk!’

'Who's been eating my porridge?' Baby Bear is worried!

Mummy bear wonders who's been eating her porridge!

Daddy bear uses a cross voice to show how angry he is!

Run, Goldilocks run!

Our Goldilocks theme continued as we went to get busy in other areas in the classroom. Some children went to visit the bear cave, whilst other children went to find big shoes for Daddy bear and little shoes for Baby Bear.

In the shoe shop we tried to find some new shoes for Baby bear, Mummy bear and Daddy bear!

I  wonder what might happen tomorrow?

Headlines: A rocket crash landed at Ashbrow!!!

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

A flurry of excitement arrived in nursery when we received a letter from Baby bear saying that his friends Hedgehog and Rabbit had crash landed in the forest garden!!! Could we help them???

We tenatively went down to the garden and this is what we found!

We were all excited about going to find the rocket!

The garden was frozen that day!

We were all a bit worried about what we might find!We discovered the rocket had crash-landed in the tree!

Carefully we carried it back to nursery!

We made sure that our new friends were safe and warm!

We are now going to build them a home in nursery!

Hello from our youngest learners!

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

We have been so busy since returning after Christmas. We began the New Year by looking at the ‘Whatever Next?’ story. We were eager to build our own rockets,  so we experimented –  building with cardboard boxes, milk crates, wooden bricks, recycled materials and even gigantic cardboard boxes!

We used boxes to help us create a rocket to fly to the moon

A great deal of debate and discussion went on as to the design of the space craft but we all worked together to get the job done!
