Holly,Isabel and Katie all played their instruments.

Well done all of you!

Leigh got a certificate for amazing reading. Ethan got one for having lots of enthusiasm for class3s dancing.

Elizabeth earned her award for doing amazing maths so did Eden Ny.

Poppy earned her award for being enthusiastic all year and Lola got one for progressing a lot further with her maths whizz!

Writers of the week were awarded to Darcy got her award for writing an amazing list of what she’d take on an adventure and so did Prewa.

Writer of the week certificates were awarded to Harrison for an excellent Viking description and Amber for an amazing Viking raid description…
We have started to give out lots of manners certificates. So well done to everyone who got one!

Joe Hirst has played his guitar, he has played the Polish Dance. Zoe,Ellie (Ellie has made a sum for everyone how many toes are on 5 people answer 50), Megan, Ellie, Holly and Adie have won a head teacher’s award. Oliver H, Elizabeth and Tilly have won a swimming award. A writer’s award went to Edward. Good manners awards went to Oliver B, Emma, Leigh, Gabriel, Natasha, Erin, Lola, Mia, Luke, Amy, Oliver, Ellie, Lily, Darcie, Thomas, Emily, Isabel, Alfie and Holly also Scot Harvey came in to do photography, with Class 3.

Award assembly

Awards from Class 1 were Alexia for improvement in reading and Aaron for trying hard in writing. Jake and Eden-Ny got writers of the week. Class 2 awards went to Lola for Science and Lucy for Maths. Class 3 got awards way back from November to now. John, Ruby, Katie, Matt and Patrick got them for loads of different reasons. 1 length went to Joe well done. New awards for manners went to people all through the school from Reception to Year 5. Lots of people came swarming up to get different stamp card stages which even included a double bronze. Happy birthday to Jay and Emily.

This was sent as a message to the School Facebook Page. We thought we’d share it here as well.

“My name is Jane Bates.

I had to pop by and say hello when I saw your page on Facebook.
I was born at 1 Mill Cottage, Birdsedge in 1963 and my parents were the caretakers of Birdsedge School .

My first school years were spent at your little school and the Headmaster was called Mr Spence.

My first year there I was taught by Mrs Owen and I then moved up to Mrs Acton’s class for a short while before we moved away. I have very happy memories of those years. I passed my national cycling proficiency test in your play ground and I remember May Day and Harvest festival with fond memories. The smell of daffodils used to fill the school hall and my favourite of all was to dance round the May pole. I learnt to play the recorder there and to read music too.

I feel blessed to have been born in to such a wonderful little village and even though I am now 50 years old I remember it like yesterday. I live in the South now and have visited the North only a few times. When I next make a trip to the North I would very much like to visit the School and have a look round . It looks much the same on your photo with the exception of a little new addition on the side of the building.

I wonder if you still have the May pole dancing and Harvest festivals. We Also used to make Easter gardens on biscuit tin lids in the hall, it was such a lovely time. I used to go to Birdsedge Church every Sunday where Mr and Mrs Missing we’re the preacher and his wife. Mrs Missing used to run Sunshine corner there and she taught me how to crochet. The neighbourly warmth and community spirit were something that couldn’t be found anywhere else since we moved away.

Class 2 Assembly

After all the snow Class 2′s assembly was a great success. They took us back in time to the Victorian age. The Ells family and the Haigh family were families in Victorian Birdsedge. They learnt how to weave and wrote instructions to tell us how. They sang 4 Pence a Day about hard work, and travelling north. They read work about mining whilst singing and music playing. In Art they made some collages. They sung a song about electricity how we all need it and they sung us some examples why we need it. We got taken forward to the future where they sung ‘Friendly Robot’. They made robots with circuits in them which made it move for example it’s eyes lit up. They all made a story with front covers and blurbs. Parents stayed to look at work.

Class1′s assembly

This blog is by Lewis in Class 3. It’s Class 1′s assembly 21st of March, they’ve made puppets and collages. The puppets were made to be things like; ladybirds, whales and princesses. They told the story of goldilocks and the three bears using actions and songs I am sure they will remember these songs and actions if you couldn’t come. They also counted in tens. Mrs Walden has given it a brilliant review, especially about the three bears and everything else.
