Science yt

Filmed at 2,000 frames per second, this video (available on YouTube), captures in breathtaking detail how water droplets ‘bounce’ when they hit water. The scientific explanation is fascinating. A great ‘short’ resource for any H2O science lesson/ activity.

iCT@C wk Imagine hundreds of thousands of great short videos, and other media, explaining every topic taught to school kids. Imagine them rated and sorted into a giant Directory, making them simple to find. WatchKnow–as in, “You watch, you know”–is a non-profit online community devoted to this goal.

WK2

WatchKnow has a very neat search filter, easy to use and finds content from many sources very fast. Some LEA’s may have WEB filter issues though. Such as blocked Youtube content, for example.

iCT@C iPhone ted TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Program, the new TEDx community program, this year’s TEDIndia Conference and the annual TED Prize.

The content on TED is very good, if you are looking for a worthy, inspirational talk or lecture for yourself and/ or to share with your students, you are likely to find it here.

As well as being able to watch TED Talks on the website itself, there is also a free iPhone App which allows you to access and watch latest TED talks on the go. The talks usually last between 10 – 30 mins so a good wifi connection is advised, although I have watched some talks through the standard 3G connection without any real problems. The TED app itself (free, App Store) allows you to view all the videos and audio available on Ted.com right on your iPhone, and doesn’t just link you to youtube videos either, opting for full quicktime movies. You can favourite videos, share them with your friends – all fairly standard stuff.

ICT SEN iCT@C sketchup-logo sketchupLogo_sm Another application for using Google Sketchup. Originally thinking about how Sketchup could be used by students to create 3D Mind-Maps. Which in itself is an interesting thought, and would work very well. As images and text can be added to Sketchup work, a 3D Mind-Map is very realistic idea. However, the idea quickly evolved into one that could allow teachers to make 3D Learning Maps or Journey’s for students to follow within the 3D environment that Sketchup allows.

The short video below illustrates this idea:
