Espresso are running FREE Writers Workshops for Kirklees primary schools. The following information comes from Helen Daykin of Espresso:

‘I thought you might want to know that we are running some FREE Writers Workshops in conjunction with the YHGfL.  The workshops are aimed at Literacy and ICT Co-ordinators although anyone with a teaching responsibility is more than welcome to attend.  The workshop looks at how to engage the reluctant writer with the use of digital content using Photo Story and Movie Maker.  The content we use will be taken from Espresso but if a school doesn’t have our service they can use other digital content that they may be using in school.

As well as walking away with many great ideas to use with their pupils at school the attendees can opt for a full 4 week free trail of the Espresso content for their school if they don’t already subscribe.  This is great way of teachers having a look and a try of Espresso with their pupils and teachers in school enabling them to make an informed decision. Schools can just opt for a trial if they aren’t able to make of the half day workshop sessions.’

Welcome to the Summer Term! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and enjoyed the fantastic weather as much as I did.

YHGfL are offering a new video conferencing opportunity this month, schools wanting to get going with video conferencing may be interested:

Yorkshire Vision

A videoconferencing opportunity in true ‘Eurovision’ style for YHGfL member primary schools. Schools can perform a short song , no longer than 3 minutes in a MFL (French , German or Spanish).

All Schools will watch the other schools perform , then after a short break , vote for the best performance and report back in true Eurovision style – there will be no ‘0 points’. The winning school will then perform their song again. Certificates will be awarded to all schools.

Date: Wednesday 25th May 2011
Time: dependent on the number of schools taking part, 1.00pm to 3.00pm, places are limited.

As usual YHGfL will be able to support any schools new to the technology.
See http://shareit.yhgfl.net/enews/?p=234 for a video of a previous year.

Schools will need to be registered here by the 16th May so timings can be allocated.
