Here is some of the fabulous writing we did yesterday! As we will be visiting Year 3 on Thursday and Friday morning this week, we wont get a chance to use the computer suite to blog – so we have written our posts, and today we will illustrate them as well.
What a fantastic – and very busy week we have had! Our Gruffalo wood, looks splendid with your tree sculptures and all the members of our Gruffalo family!…. but we better let people know that the dinosaurs are coming now!
Your character descriptions were fantastic and everyone really tried their best, and remembered Mr Perfect’s tips for character writing – can you spot all the adjectives and similes we have used?
Then we took our writing to the computer suite and used Purple Mash to publish and illustrate our Gruffalo descriptions! Can you spot all the exciting vocabulary we have used?

We will make sure everyone has time to finish it off on Purple Mash and then we can put it up in the classroom and on the blog!

We can invite our parents in to watch us performing the story when we have practiced it together! We will also be continuing with our collages of the Rainbow Fish and the seascapes. On Thursday we celebrated more of our achievements on Mathletics. Lots of parents came to celebrate with the children who achieved Gold Awards, and Lucas the Kop Cat from Leeds United, and Danny Buderus from Leeds Rhinos came to help give out the certificates, along with Chris Edwards and Deanne and Suzy from Mathletics.
Next week I am going to the Mathletics Conference and I will be talking about how Hovingham Primary has become the 1st Centre of Excellence for Mathletics – in the world! So this a short video I have put together to show them – and to give everyone an idea as to why the children at Hovingham are so great at Maths and love it so much! Well done everyone – keep ‘Aiming High,’ get a certificate every week – and try and be the Mathlete of the week with the highest score.

I’m so sorry that I wasn’t able to join you yesterday, and I won’t be in today either – but I know you are doing some great things with Miss Friday and all the great Year 2 team.
First, let me tell you about my day in London, meeting a lady called Rachael, who works for Mathletics in Australia! She wanted to know all about how we do our Maths and all the things we are learning, so she can design some new games to make the site even better for you. She loved your story about Mr Mathletics and Little Miss Perfect! She showed me the latest, exciting things that have happened on Mathletics – there are some new amazing workbooks, that we can print out and use – so even if you don’t have a computer you can still enjoy Mathletics. I know that Miss Friday is going to give you some booklets from the Mathletics workbooks for you to take home for the holidays! I was also shown the new changes on Spellodrome, and now I can set you special spelling lists – so if you have the internet at home, log on and see the changes in Spellodrome too! Well done too, to Chelsea for getting her Gold Certificate this week, and to the children who did the quiz I set up on Mathletics for you yesterday.
The next exciting thing - The Bug Club! I have set us up a 30 day trial of the Bug Club. It is like an online library – but even better! I have set all of you up with some books which I know you will enjoy… Miss Friday will give you your passwords and show you how it works.
So here are links to keep you busy over the holidays! Please also blog and tell me what you are up to – I will blog to you all over the holidays too!

I like MR Slow because he is slow. I like Mr Slow because he is green and has a small green hat. Mr Slow got himself a job as a taxi driver. In the story Mr Slow talked in an extraordinarily slow way. Mr Slow went on a picnic with Mr Busy.
I like Mr Grumble because he is purple. In story MR Grumble said ”Bah! I hate wizards!”
At the end of story MR Grumble was afraid that he might stay a pig for the rest of his life. Did you know Mr. Grumble was never ever a pig?
Mr Nonsense had no sense at all.Not a scrap. Mr Nonsense liked to eat? porridge! Mr Nonsense sleeps every night? In a rowing boat! Mr Nonsense was often round at Mr Silly,s house playing jigsaw puzzles. Mr Nonsense made snow balls that some how or other came out sort of square!
My favourite Mr Men story is Mr Strong because he is strong.
