114 Mathletics certificates this week!

Posted by admin on Sunday Jan 24, 2010 Under Literacy

Well done everyone! I set the school the challenge of 100 certificates in a week, and already we have achieved it! 30 of the certificates were for children in my maths group and together we scored over 70,000 points! Fantastic! I am so proud of you all. At the end of Thursday we managed to get to 7th in the Top Schools in the UK list, and we finished the week on 14th – another magnificent accomplishment.

Not only have you wowed me with your Maths – but I am so impressed with the beautiful dream catchers you have made in you teams and now the stunning ones you have started on your own. I’m sure that when we hang them up, and with all of us being the best we can be and aiming high….. we really will make our dreams come true. ( Remind me this week – I must take some pictures of the dreamcatchers to put on the blog and website for everyone to see)

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend, don’t forget to do your learning log, learn your spellings and read! Bye for now, Miss Teacher :-)

What is snow?

Snow is white and cold. Snow is soft when I play with it. I love snow so much but not everyone likes snow because it can be dangerous. Snow can get on your clothes and make them wet and cold. People can make snow angels, snowpeople or igloos.

 Where does the snow go?

The snow goes in the drainpipes when it melts on the roof. When the sun comes out the snow goes away and melts. Snow takes a long time to melt if it is made into a snowman.

Where has all the snow gone? from Miss Teacher

Posted by admin on Sunday Jan 17, 2010 Under Literacy

It was amazing to wake yesterday to find that nearly all the snow had gone! We have been busy in Year 2 finding out all about ‘Snow’ and writing explanations about it. We all went out and worked in teams to build some super snowmen – now I wonder what will be left of them in the school field! I know our new class toys, Oscar and Kitty will be wanting us to explain to them where all the snow has gone…… can you explain it to them?

It was lovely to get the blog message from Mr Kind and the comments from a couple of other children now in year 3. Mr Kind, I have been watching how everyone is doing on Mathletics and I was amazed to see you getting nearly 7,000 points this week. You must feel really proud of all the certificates you are achieving and I’m sure you will be a real star in your Numeracy lessons now. This weeks Mathletics champion was in year 5, and they scored 11,379 points! You will have to wait until the Friday Together Time when the certificates will be handed out!

In Year 2 we have been very busy setting ourselves ‘Goals’. We have been making some fantastic dream catchers to remind us to keep going for our goals. We made them in teams, but we like them so much that we all want to make our own, so next week we are going to start our own extra special dream catchers that we will be able to take home.

What are you up to in Year 3? I love to hear all your news, and I’m always especially proud when I see how well you are all doing on Mathletics! Keep on being the best you can be! Bye for now, Miss Teacher :-)

Snow!

Posted by admin on Tuesday Jan 5, 2010 Under Literacy

So much snow has fallen today that school has been closed! I have got back to my home, and am working on my computer and watching to see who is busy on Mathletics! Great to see that already 9 of you have got a certificate this week from my Maths team, and over 30 children in school.

When we all get back together, we are going to be doing some work on explanations. Our first explanation is going to answer the question, ‘What is snow?’ While you are at home today you might like to see what you can find out about snow. You can use the Internet to find out information, and I shall put some links on the blog for you to look at. Does it tell you on the television how much snow has fallen today? I have ordered some non fiction books about snow, and they should arrive at school for us tomorrow.

I hope you and your families are all warm and safe. See you soon, from Miss Teacher. :-)

Happy New Year and an exciting start to 2010!

Posted by admin on Sunday Jan 3, 2010 Under Literacy

Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a lovely holiday with your families and have enjoyed the snow! Miss Teacher lives on the top of a hill and the gritters never come near her house, so she has had her wellingtons on and has been walking every where! Her little dog has had to have his winter coat on to keep him warm when walking in the park!

I have been watching to see who has been on Mathletics and am really proud to see that some of you have achieved certificates even during the holidays. I know that some of you must have been to visit friends who have the internet and must have been busy Mathleticing there….. fantastic! Miss Teacher is so proud of you, she is going to give out the certificates in the Together Time she does for the whole school on Monday morning! The Together Time is going to be about ‘Going for Goals’ and I am going to set a special challenge for us all…….. It will be World Maths Day on March 3rd – just after half term – can we achieve 10 gold certificates and 100 certificates in a week for then? Of course we can!!!! If we all keep being the best we can be! If you won’t get your Gold for that week – set a special date when you are going to achieve it – and then go for it! Remember too that it is really important to also do your best in your lessons and we will all being setting our own goals and looking at how we can help each other achieve them.

I have put some lovely photographs of the fantastic things we made last term onto our website -http://www.super-school.co.uk If you click on the link for last terms theme – ‘Getting on and falling out,’ you will see some of our Magic carpet sewing, our Cinderella fairies and our Van Gogh paintings. Show them to your friends and family – they will be very proud of your marvellous achievements. ( Remember there is a link at the side of this page that takes you straight to the Super School site) I have also sent our class half termly book off for printing, so that should be in class very soon for us to all enjoy looking at.

Miss Teacher has been busy planning lots of exciting things for us to learn during this half term. Here is our new long term planner!

spring-1-2010

I’m really looking forward to the next half term on our Learning Adventure together. Remember to let your family know that they are very welcome to come and join us too…. they might especially enjoy our creative afternoons on Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays.  See you all soon, best wishes for a very special 2010 to you and your families, from Miss Teacher. :-)   :-)   :-)
