Y2 – Palm

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday – I have seen that some of you have been busy reading books on Bug Club and lots of you have been playing Mathletics – what a fabulous score Muaz! I wonder who will be our Holiday Mathletics champ! By the way, don’t forget the Mathletics celebration is on February 2nd – so only 4 weeks after we go back to school. So if you have 14 certificates already and keep getting 1 every week, you could achieve your 1st Gold Award! Remember too, Mrs Jones said she would come back for the celebration if some of you were getting Gold awards!

I have been busy planning an exciting learning adventure for the next half term! Have a look at the planner…. click on it to make it full size! You will see that we will be doing lots of science, and painting portraits for an exciting project called ‘Face Britain.’

I hope you all have a happy holiday. Don’t forget to write on the blog – I will keep checking it, and will post your writing and comment on it. Play Mathletics – I will be watching out for the holiday champion players! Read books on Bug Club and answer the questions carefully – I will give you more books, when you need them. We went to the Carriageworks in Leeds to see Beauty and the Beast. (Safia) My favourite part was when the man changed into the beast. ( Abdullah) When the Beast changed back into the Count and married Beauty he picked her up, this was Maymona’s favourite part. ‘I liked the bit when he turned into a beast and you could see him in the magic mirror,’ said Aasim, Faheem and Muaz. Mrs Jones thought the beast was going to die! but when Beauty told the beast that she loved him, he changed back to life. Isa thought that Beauty also believed the beast was dead and Isa was happy when the Beast turned back into the Count. When Gastone hit the Beast and the Beast fell down was Muhammad Ali’s favourite part.

My favourite part was when Bella’s dad got her a rose (Sabah) however Kasim said that he liked the part when the Beast turned back into a Prince, it was magical. When the Prince turned into the Beast was the bit I liked the best because there was a loud bang (Ali and Ibrahim) and Syed thought it was exciting at the theatre as he was sitting really high up!

‘I liked the beautiful costumes that the characters wore, especially Belle’s because it was a lovely colour and she looked gorgeous at the end’ said Mayan.The part Aaminah and Shahed  loved was when Belle married the Prince and they lived happily ever after and they had a party.

When the Beast first appeared on the stage was Bradley’s best bit as he was so excited to see him and Zuber loved every minute of all the show!However, Asad thought the Beast looked scary with his claws and Fatimah and Usma  loved all the dancing at the end as the Prince lifted up Belle.

The part that Sohail enjoyed the most was when the lady had flour all over her face as it was really funny.

‘I wish I went with you it sounds as if it was fantastic’ said Mrs Shaw.

Yesterday   we   went   to  see    Beauty   and    the   Beast.    When     I went  inside    it  was  amasin.  My  friends even  lovet it and  I   even   lovet  it!  I  love  the  part   when  the  girl was  singing  my  favourite bit  was when  Beauty got   marreed  to  the  Beast   even  I  love  when  they  were   dasing. I  lovet  when the  man had the flour thrown at his  head.

Our play Eddy the penguin was about recycling and thinking about our world today. People were dressed up as polarberas and penguins. I had a penguin hat on. Eddy the penguin went to the rain forest he saw some men. He told them please dont chop too many trees down because we will have no oxigen. We sang lots of songs.It was fun.

We are really looking forward to doing our show of ‘Eddie the Penguin saves the World’ for our Mums and Dads this afternoon. We have read a fantastic story called’365 Penguins’ and done lots of penguin maths about the book. We have made penguins and learnt lots about them using non-fiction books and by watching ‘March of the Penguins. Everyone has loved learning about penguins. I have been amazed by how many facts the children could teach me.

Did you know that penguins are birds but they don’t fly? Penguins eat krill and squid and other fish. When the chick is born the mum goes to swim to catch some fish and the dad keeps the baby warm under his furry belly. They have sharp, black claws that grip to the ice so they cannot slip. Penguins live in the Antarctic where it is cold and icy but this is perfect for them because they like it like that!

Did you know that penguins are black and have a white belly and some are called Emperor Penguins.It is really funny when they jump out of the water and slide on their bellies it is like they are sliding on a slide.

Penguin mum goes to get fish and squid and the mum goes to dive in the water to get fish.

The dad looks after the egg under his furry pouch on his beely to keep it safe and warm. When the egg cracks dad has to feed the chik or it will die, they have to wait for the mum to return from the sea and then dad goes to catch his own food.Penguins are balck and white and live in the Antarctic which is very cold and icy.
