School governance

Learning from the best

The national picture

More than 300,000 school governors in England form one of the largest volunteer groups in the country. Since 1988, school governing bodies have taken on more responsibilities and their role has become more important as schools have gained increasing autonomy. The governing body complements and enhances school leadership by providing support and challenge, ensuring that all statutory duties are met, appointing the headteacher and holding them to account for the impact of the school’s work on improving outcomes for all pupils.

Netmedia / Teacher Zone emails / Web boxes

April 28th, 2011 by admin No comments »

As you may be aware Netmedia, the platform that previously powered Teacher Zone, was disconnected at very short notice.

This means that teacher zone email, web box and subject index are no longer available in their previous format. The North Lincolnshire Common Learning Platform (My Learning Space) will be offered as a replacement for all these services.

Each school will be issued with a new username and password to access the new look web box.

Most schools are already part of the new Learning Platform and the remaining schools are being added as soon as possible unless you have indicated other wise.

If you have any concerns please contact Penny Earl, ICT & e-Learning Consultant.

Important Announcement

Please be aware that the Netmedia Platform which currently manages the North Lincolnshire Teacher Zone  will be retiring on the 15th April

There may be a small window of opportunity to transfer the existing system however, we need to plan for the data and service going down.

TZ Web Box

The Web boxes are currently being moved to North Lincolnshire Learning Platform.  You will  be contacted with your new user name and password shortly. Should you require any assistance during this transition please contact the Research and Information team on 01724 297283

TZ Subject Index

If you are using the Subject Index as a communications route to schools please contact andy.bird@northlincs.gov.uk to discuss alternative methods of communications.

If there are any resources you require from Subject boxes please download these to a safe place.

Resources that are deemed to be worth keeping will be transferred to the Knowledge Tree on the North Lincolnshire Learning Platform

TZ Web Mail

If you currently use an @tz.nlincs.yhgfl.net email address please download any important information you have in your Inbox and inform your contacts that your address will no longer be available.  We strongly encourage teachers to adopt the @northlincs.net email address available as part of the North Lincolnshire Learning Platform.  Most schools are now signed up to this service.  If you are unsure if your school has been set-up please contact sarah.dunn@northlincs.gov.uk for details.

Effective Procurement Training for Schools

September 13th, 2010 by admin No comments »

The Strategic Procurement & VfM Unit has arranged for 2 half day ‘Effective Procurement’ training courses for schools to be held on Tuesday 5 October 2010 and Wednesday 6 October 2010, both 9.30am – 12.30pm. The course will be held at EDC. The cost is £35 per delegate.

The training course is specifically for schools and will help maximise the value they obtain from their budgets and improve understanding of financial regulations. Positive feedback has been received from schools that have attended the training previously. In particular they have welcomed the advice and guidance on getting the best deal, dealing with sales tactics, understanding basic contract issues and the financial regulations that apply to schools.

Please contact Mel Blagg in the Strategic Procurement & VfM Unit on 01724 296027 or email mel.blagg@northlincs.gov.uk to reserve your place.
