Just to let you all know that Charm laid her eggs during the Easter holidays. She laid 8 eggs altogether, which is a very small clutch. Cornsnakes can lay as many as 40 eggs in one go and will take between 50 & 80 days to hatch. Charm’s eggs are now safe and sound in a specially adapted incubator, which will keep the temperature between 26 - 30 degrees centigrade and the humidity between 80 & 100%. The eggs are incubated on a substrate called vermeculite which holds water and keeps the temperature high, a thermostat regulates the temperature so that they don’t overheat, anything over 32C will cook the eggs.
Charms eggs have now been in the incubator for 39 days, so, fingers crossed we don’t have long to wait for baby snakies. As soon as they start pipping i’ll put some pictures up. Here’s some pictures of charm laying her eggs in her nest box - i had to be really sneaky to get this, and another picture of her eggs in the incubator. Click on the picture to make it bigger.

Say Hello to Saffi. A big thank you to everyone who helped choose her name. She’s just been in shed, so doesn’t look quite as orange. This means that she has outgrown her skin and needs to shed it so that she can get bigger, you can tell when they are going to do this because they go very dull and their eyes go ‘milky’ which is a white / blue film on their eyes. They can’t see very well when they’re in shed and so get very nervous. In the wild they wouldn’t be able to spot predators and so spend their time hiding. It can take around 2 weeks for them to shed their skin. This is a picture of Saffi’s shed although it’s not a complete one, you can see the scales and the eye caps.

More news soon

We are pleased to announce a new fund raising activity for school this year named Get Stuck In Day! The children will all take part on the 8th May in the afternoon at 1:30pm. The event will last for half an hour and children will be able to walk, run, scooter or cycle their way around a course! Full details are included in the flyer below, which has been sent home to all parents. Fundraising is really important to school, we have raised over £3000 in the past. The proceeds will go towards new resources in school for the children, including new PE equipment and practical digital cameras for the children to use.

Last week we submitted paintings into the Sheffield Young Painters of the Year Competition and Exhibition 2008. All schools in Sheffield have been invited to take part in the competition.
The children were asked to enter paintings into a school competition so that we could select 10 paintings each from KS1 and KS2. This took place on Friday, 1st March, and the selected paintings have been entered. There will be an exhibition of all the paintings, which are selected by a panel of judges, at Ponds Forge on the 25th and 26th April, 2008. It is estimated that there will be over 600 paintings in the exhibition. Both the Competition and the Exhibition will have publicity in the local media, which should generate a lot of enthusiasm amongst children. Well done to all those children who have taken part in the school art competition!! And look out for details about a new after school art club starting next term!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
Isn’t it amazing all the dots on our map at the bottom of the page?! I wonder if you know where they all are? Here is an enlarged version for you to look at - the small version is always at the bottom of the page for you to see

Hello from French Polynesia. I have been on a beautiful island called Moorea for the last week. The island is surrounded by a coral reef which you can see the waves breaking over in the distance. The water I have been swimming in is very calm, incredibly clear and is all different shades of blue from turquoise to a dark navy colour. I can see the fish and the occasional ray swim past me. My next stop is Australia and I shall post a picture from there.

Hello from Peru! I have seen many exciting things here. The most famous place I have seen is Machu Picchu which is an Inca city in the Sacred Valley. It was really amazing and I spent 5 hours there taking it all in. I have also enjoyed seeing the many colourful fabrics of Peru and trying the interesting foods.

This is the lighthouse in Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. I went there from Buenos Aires on the ferry for the day. We sailed across the River Plate to get there. It is not the capital of Uruguay but it is beautiful and very peaceful. I spent a few hours just wandering around and enjoying the sunshine.
