On Friday 25th September, 4 of the School Council’s Playground Committee went with Mrs Akroyd to visit the FABULOUS playground at Sitwell Junior School, Rotherham.
They met their School Council to chat with them about their playground, asking them questions such as which are the most/least popular areas, what it was like before and what effect it’s had on the school since it was installed.
They had the opportunity to play on the equipment, mix with the children and (most importantly) get lots of ideas to feed back to S.J.S upon their return.
They will be showing the school a powerpoint to tell us all about it in Monday’s assembly.
Watch this space for further updates…

We have now formally elected our new S.J.S. School Council!
Chairperson: Carlie Howe - Y6JC
Vice-chair: Isabelle Mate - Y6LA
Treasurer: Emer Crawford-Thomson - Y6JC
Secretaries: Megan Whoolley - Y6JC, Rimini Flowers, Y3Davy
There are also numerous committees that have been elected, (though there are still some candidates we need to confirm for these roles). The committees are as follows:
- Playground Committee
- Sports Committee
- Fundraising Committee
- Recycling Committee
- Quad Committee
- Attendance Committee
- Cloakroom Committee
- Voucher Committee
Also, we have now got 2 representatives for each class to attend meetings, feedback concerns from the class and then feedback ‘minutes’ to the class to update everyone on what’s going on in school.
Just a reminder: ANYONE is welcome to attend School Council meetings at any time to see what we do and to make suggestions or raise concerns in person. We’re a very welcoming bunch - the more the merrier!
The next School Council meeting is at 12:30 in Mrs Akroyd’s room on Friday 9th October.
Hopefully see you there!

The cloakroom committee
As you may have noticed, we the people above (The Cloakroom Committee) haven’t been doing the Cloakroom Checks for AGES, so next week on Wednesday we shall be coming round with a mystery teacher to judge the cloakrooms.
If you win, you get a lovely certificate to display in your cloakroom and Mr Foster will be giving out prizes to the tidiest cloakrooms like extra breaks!
Just as long as Mrs A’s class win, I’m not too bothered!!

Playground Committee:
In the past playground committee has handed out playground questionnaires. We’ve now gathered your ideas and started to make decisions.
So for the future we have thought about it and said new equipment would be a good idea and also markings for the footballer boys and possibly have other pitches (e.g. netball) marked out too.
We have bought some paints and over the summer holidays, we are wanting to paint the playground so we need ideas and suggestions! Y4A have already drawn out their suggestions for the little yard, but we want everyone’s ideas.
So, if you’ve got any ideas of your own, come to Maya Rodriguez or Emer-Crawford-Thomson. In Y5D!

What we have done so far:
The recycling committee have so far got the huge recycling sacks to put all the unused paper in.
Ideas for the future :
We would like to get rid of the huge bags and instead, get boxes because the are getting hard to carry and make classrooms look untidy!
We are also wanting to hear your ideas and suggestions for how we could make our school more eco-friendly.
Also, one of our ideas has been to create posters to display around school to encourage us all to do our bit to make help our planet e.g. turn off taps, recycle etc. This is where the children of S.J.S could help! If you design a poster (either hand-drawn or computer-created) you can submit it to Alice Hague or Caitlin Skene and if the School Council think it’s good, we will laminate it and put it up somewhere in school! So get your creative heads on!
Finally, if you have any ideas for the future please talk to Alice Hague or Caitlin Skene .

In the past ,we have done things like No T.V. and Saturday the 14th of March. We would now like to do another sponsored event.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for this (or any other fundraising ideas!) please tell either Carlie Howe or Eleanor Luttrell in Year 5.
If we like your ideas then you never know - we might  perform it!
Thanks!

So far, we’ve done loads of sporty stuff: a basketball tournament, football tournament and an orienteering tournament. We might soon be having a cricket tournament.
We didn’t win the basket ball tournament or the orietering tournament either but we still had fun taking part. The year six’s won their football tournament though!
If you have any other ideas about sports events that we could run, let the school council know.
